International Women's Day 2023
Let’s Do Business Group celebrates the achievements of local women in business with their International Women’s Day 2023 event.
On Wednesday 8th March 2023, Let’s Do Business Group and BIPC Sussex at Hastings Library hosted a one-day event to celebrate International Women's Day 2023, with the aim to teach aspiring female entrepreneurs the skills to launch their idea, and to highlight existing businesswomen in East Sussex.
Each year, International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8th to bring attention to issues such as gender equality and reproductive rights. The campaign theme for 2023 was #EmbraceEquity with the aim being to ‘get the world talking about Why equal opportunities aren’t enough’. Because of this, we wanted to highlight the incredible women in business across the Southeast & East of England through an event held at Hastings Library as well as continuing the campaign through our social media channels.
The event started with a series of mini-workshops from expert business coaches, Lisa Young from Let’s Do Business Group, Cale Sinfield from Kangaroo Connections and Holly & Gemma from Ashdown Hurry Accountants. The material of these bite sized workshops covered the topics business planning, understanding financials, marketing & social media, and practicalities of setting up.
Following the workshops was open networking where attendees were able to mingle with each other to expand their networks, seek advice from the experts, and discover more about launching a business in the local area. The end of the day was dedicated to celebrating local businesswomen through pop up stands. Local entrepreneurs were given the opportunity to bring in and display their products and talk to the other attendees. We saw pop up stands from Aoi Bara (meditation & wellbeing), Ola Supreme (body butters), Salotto I.M.D (clothing brand), True Natural (health & wellness), Eden Grace Organics (organic skincare), and Spanish On Sea (Spanish language school).
Alongside the in person event, we continued the campaign on our Instagram. Reaching out to women in business who have been helped through the business support we offer such as Her Biz, My Biz, Locate East Sussex, Let’s Do Business Group, in addition to anyone else who simply wanted to take part. We asked them to record a video about their experience, the struggles they have faced whilst starting up or being a women working in a business, and most importantly, how they overcame these hurdles.
