Embracing Equity

Let’s Do Business Group supports International Women’s Week with a special event to #EmbraceEquity

This year Let’s Do Business Group and BIPC Local at Hastings Library are hosting a one-day event on Wednesday 8th March to celebrate International Women's Day 2023, to teach aspiring female entrepreneurs the skills to launch their idea, and to highlight existing businesswomen in East Sussex.

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8th and is an important time to recognize and celebrate the achievements of women around the world and bring attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and other issues women face.

The theme of this year's International Women's Day is #EmbraceEquity.

The words equity and equality are often used interchangeably. Whilst ‘equality’ means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities, ‘equity’ recognizes that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.

The Let's Do Business Group is launching a week long campaign where they will be highlighting some of the challenges that women in business face, how they have been overcome and most importantly showcasing some of the stories of success from women in the South East and East of England.

The one day event hosted at Hastings Library on International Women’s Day itself will offer a selection of activities to teach aspiring female entrepreneurs the skills to launch their idea, and to highlight existing businesswomen in the South East and East of England. The day will include a series of mini-workshops from expert business coaches, and an afternoon of informal networking and celebrating successful local businesswomen. Through learning from each other and sharing the experiences of women in business, we can #EmbraceEquity, and celebrate the potential of women in our local community.

The day is completely free and will be split into three sections - attendees are welcome to attend the whole day, or simply drop-in.

The agenda for the day will be as follows:

10:00am - 12:00pm - Mini Workshops covering topics:

  • Business Planning – presented by Lisa Young, Let's Do Business Group

  • Understanding Financials – presented by Lisa Young,  Let's Do Business Group

  • Marketing and Social Media – presented by Cale Sinfield of Kangaroo Connections

  • Practicalities of Setting Up – presented by Ashdown Hurrey Accountants

12:00pm - 13:00pm - Open Networking
Attendees can use this opportunity to expand their networks, seek advice from the experts, and discover more about launching a business in the local area.

13:00pm - 15:00pm - Pop Up Stands & Celebrating Women in Business
This last part of the day is dedicated to celebrating local businesswomen, and gives local entrepreneurs the opportunity to display their products to the group. This can include a short talk from business owners and attendees can ask questions.
